Vine Online - Details - History |
|
The VineOnline started as Mark Weber and Todd Goepferd, the founders of Click Logic, noticed that each church they were a part of had similar desires for their websites. Some churches, like ours, had web experts in the congregation that could build custom data-driven applications, but the vast majority don't have that degree of expertise readily available. However, many churches do have one or more people that can design a static web site. When Todd began attending Northridge Fellowship, he and Ben McEachern, pastor of Northridge Fellowship, sat down over lunch to dream about what the church website could do for the congregation. From that conversation came the picture of what the VineOnline would later become. However, it was far too much work to create something like that for just one church. Therefore, it was a very natural fit for Click Logic to build it as a product that could benefit many churches. After some market research, Click Logic determined that the other products on the market were far to expensive for churches to use becuase they targeted large corporations. The cost was easily more than $10,000 for the product. In addition, these products were great at managing content (uploading news stories, classified ads, etc), but they lacked some of the online community features that would benefit a church. Therefore, when the VineOnline was built, it combined traditional content management functions with online community functions like the forum, a bulletin board component and calendars that roll up into a master church calendar. When Northridge began using the VineOnline in August 2006, the feedback was very positive and the benefits became immediately obvious. Now, the office staff is doing the complex web updates like adding pages to the site and managing user logins. The ministry leaders are responsible for their own portion of the website. Before the VineOnline, Northridge had one or two volunteer webmasters. They worked hard and did a good job, but sending your changes via email to the web master just does not happen. Now the webmasters are free to invest their time creating custom graphics and other more creative tasks. Teri McEachern has found that the VineOnline is saving her a lot of time as worship leader. Now all the songs are uploaded to the website in both audio format and in document form so that that the musicians can download whatever then need to rehearse. The VineOnline has a great future ahead of it because it is written by people who value the work of local churches and genuinely desire to see those churches doing what God calls them to do. Although writing software is not listed as one of the spiritual gifts in the New Testament, we believe it is a talent that should be used to serve our Lord, Jesus Christ. As a business, we are using the VineOnline ourselves and enjoying the benefits in the business setting. It is no great surprise that businesses, schools, and governements all have similar needs because they all need to communicate both within their organization and with external parties. The VineOnline is a set of communication tools bundled with strong security that every organization can benefit from. |
